Wimborne Cemetery
Wimborne Cemetery is located within the civic parish of Wimborne Minster and covers approximately 12.56 acres of land between Stone Lane and St Margaret’s Hill. The cemetery is owned and managed by Wimborne Minster Town Council. For full details on cemetery use and visitation, please refer to our cemetery regulations.
Interments
In addition to traditional full coffin burials, arrangements can be made for the interment or scattering of cremated remains. Our newest Garden of Remembrance, Stone Lane Garden, offers a tranquil setting with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and the town of Wimborne Minster.
An Earthen Grave (7′ x 3′) can accommodate two full coffin burials and up to eight ashes caskets, which are interred above following the second full burial. Cremation plots can accommodate the interment of up to four ashes caskets.
It is possible to pre-purchase both full burial and cremation plots. Requests can be made directly to the Cemetery Manager – please see the Contact Page for details or complete a form available in the ‘Application Forms‘ section in the sidebar.
Exclusive Rights of Burial are sold for 100 years and may be transferred within that period, if needed.
Memorials
Grave owners have the right to place, maintain, and add an additional inscription to a memorial in honour of their loved one on their grave. Memorials may be purchased from any stonemason registered with BRAMM or NAMM and must be installed in accordance with British Standards 8415. All memorials must be made of natural stone.
For full earthen graves, lawn memorials must not exceed 3 feet in height, 3 feet in width, and 18 inches in depth. These may only be installed 12 months after a burial to allow the ground to settle and prevent subsidence.
For cremation plots, memorial tablets must not exceed 2 feet by 2 feet, with a maximum height of 9 inches. These can be installed at any time following the interment of cremated remains.
No memorial may be installed in the cemetery without prior written consent from a Council officer and payment of the required memorial permit or additional inscription licence fee. In most cases, your chosen stonemason will apply for this consent on your behalf and include the fee in their overall costs.
Each memorial is the private property of the grave owner, who is responsible for its maintenance and upkeep. We would advise any memorial owner to insure their memorial against loss or damage. Your stonemason should advise you on available policies.

Services
A chapel, built and first used in 1856, is located within the cemetery grounds and is available to hire for funeral services. It comfortably seats around 50 mourners and includes an electric organ and a CD player, allowing you to personalise the service with music.
Grounds
Following an interment, the grave will be backfilled and topped with a mound of earth. Over the coming months, regular checks will be carried out for sinking and the plot topped up earth as required. The graves are tended to as part of the cemetery’s general maintenance by our Cemetery Groundsman whose general hours of work are Monday to Friday between 9am ~ 5pm.
Please note dogs and horses are not permitted in the cemetery.
If you have any queries relating to the cemetery, please contact the Cemetery Manager as detailed on the Contact Page.
